Four Tips on Resolutions for the New Year

How are your New Year’s resolutions going?  Or have you made one?  It is not too late to start… Monday is the start of a new week. A new year lets us see the big picture for our goals and wipe the slate clean from last year.  Here are a few tips:

1. Have a PLAN.  A plan helps you stick to your goals and prevent procrastination; good intentions are not enough.  This isn’t just me dreaming this up but comes from the journal Behavioral Science.

2. Set Realistic GOALS. Don’t bite off more than you can chew.  Sure it would be nice to lose 10 lbs/week., write more, stop biting your nails, give up smoking, caffeine, alcohol or whatever your demons are – but maybe one or two at a time is more likely to happen.  Otherwise you are likely to just throw up your hands in despair and wallow in all your vices.

3. Keep a Journal of your PROGRESS.  This will help keep you on track. (And if you fall behind, that’s OK; just pick yourself up, brush yourself off and resume.)

4. Break your task up into SMALL Bits.  You will feel gratified when you can check off your success for the day or the week.  Give yourself credit for each small accomplishment – it is a mini-victory.

For some reason my News Years Day post only went online for a few hours and then vanished into cyberspace.  It can however still be retrieved, if interested here: six-new-years-wishes

I wish you all a Happy 2015  where ever you are  –    May your dreams come true.

Feliz Año Nuevo

Bonne Année

Do you have any tips to add?  What is/are your resolution(s) this year?
