It is heartwarming to see a humble, caring man step into the Pope’s shoes – actually he rejected his predecessor ‘s flashy red ones. He declines the pomp of the papal palace and tells priests to baptize infants born out of wedlock. Francis signals real progress in the church, after years of scandal and corruption. One of his first acts was to investigate fraud in the Vatican Bank.
This People’s Pope, this new voice of conscience, wants to broaden the role of women ..” the feminine genius is needed wherever we make important decisions” (but note he stops short of considering ordaining women). On gays he says, ” If a homosexual person is of good will and is in search of God, I am no one to judge“. But the most uplifting thing he has to say is that “poverty isn’t just about charity” it is also about justice. Francis builds bridges between people of all backgrounds, beliefs, and faiths.
These are messages of Peace and Compassion to all in the coming years,
(NB: I am not Catholic although I was raised in Catholic countries and the Pope is more important to the people than a President in these places.)
